2010 Exhibition Schedule – Webber Center Gallery

This Land Old Farm, Grace Senior Morandi ‘THIS LAND IS OUR LAND’ EXHIBIT OPENS JAN. 28 AT CFCC

(OCALA, Fla.) Jan. 11, 2010 — The Visual Artists’ Society brings “This Land is Our Land” to the Webber Center Gallery of Central Florida Community College beginning Thursday, Jan. 28. The works revolve around the college’s continuing discussions on environmental appreciation and awareness through many artistic mediums.

An opening reception for the judged and juried exhibit will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the Webber Center at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Many art works at the exhibit will be available for purchase.

Judge for the show is Lauren Garber Lake, an assistant professor of Art-Art History at University of Florida. The Visual Artists’ Society has more than 100 members, comprised of professional and amateur artists as well as CFCC students.

The exhibit will be open through Saturday, March 20. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The gallery is closed Sundays and Mondays. Admission is free.

Masqueraders in fantasy-style costumes, Venice, Italy, 2001; courtesy of Museum of International Folk ArtThis exhibition explores eight communities in Europe and the Americas where Carnaval is the high point of the year. Through masquerades and performances we learn about the history and cultural traditions of each region, and watch how a centuries-old festival evolved and adapted as it spread around the world. This exhibition has been made possible through NEH on the Road, a special initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities and is brought to you by Mid-America Arts Alliance. Reception: Thurs., June 17, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

 

 


The Webber Center Gallery is part of Central Florida Community College and is located at 3001 S.W. College Road, Ocala, Fla., 34474-4415. Gallery Hours: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Gallery is closed Sundays, Mondays, and college-observed holidays. Admission is FREE.
